Soon after Lincoln County’s voters passed the Animal Services Tax District in November 2012, providing permanent funding for the Animal Shelter’s operating budget, FOLCAS broadened its mission to include support for other community animals besides those housed in the Lincoln County Animal Shelter.
FOLCAS funds three financial aid programs to help local pet guardians with the cost of medical care, dental care, and spay/neuter for their animals. These programs are administered on our behalf by the Central Coast Humane Society. To submit a request for financial aid, visit their website centralcoasthumanesociety.com and complete a Request for Assistance Form. If you don’t have Internet access, call CCHS at 541-265-3719 and leave a voicemail explaining your situation.
The MAX FUND for veterinary medical care
The cornerstone of the MAX FUND was a substantial donation from Gary and Carol Allen in memory of their beloved companion Max, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge in January 2013.
FOLCAS also budgets a portion of the proceeds from the Pick of the Litter Thrift Store each month for this program. However, the need in our community is so great that we must also rely on donations from local animal lovers to supplement the MAX FUND.
Please visit our SUPPORT page to contribute to the MAX FUND, either with a one-time gift or by becoming a monthly sustainer at whatever level you choose.
The MADISON FUND for emergency veterinary care
In cases of emergency or particular hardship, extra help is sometimes needed to close the gap between available resources and the pet guardian’s means. In 2021, former volunteers and board members Frank and Judy Sherkow established a fund specifically for this purpose, beginning with a substantial donation in memory of a friend & fellow volunteer and since replenished with other memorial donations and regular monthly gifts.
This fund is named for their new cat (successor to their late cherished Sly and Tiger), who is herself named in honor of Frank’s university town.

Spay/Neuter Subsidies
FOLCAS provides a monthly grant to the Central Coast Humane Society to supplement their own spay/neuter funds in order to help meet the great need in our community for keeping both domestic pets and community (aka feral) cats from reproducing. Not only do spaying & neutering help prevent pet overpopulation, with all of its sad consequences, but a fixed animal has a far better chance of leading a longer, healthier, happier life.
